Bed shares
To make it easy for people to donate, use the “bed shares” scheme.
What we would like you to do is to “invest” in a bed by taking one or more “shares”, up to a maximum of 10 per donor.
Each share costs just £5.00 per calendar month, so your “investment” would be between £5.00 and £50.00 per calendar month.
When all shares are taken in a bed (there are 121 shares per bed), then we are able to guarantee the provision of that bed each night for a year.

Rules
There a few simple rules:
Minimum amount
A minimum of 1 share (£5.00 per calendar month) must be taken.
A single gift (minimum £60.00) may be given, which makes an ideal birthday present for a relative or friend.
Duration
A person should commit to a minimum of one calendar year (a total of just £60.00 if only one share is taken).
Multiple shares
A person may take more than one share in a bed, however a person doing so must take whole shares only. Note – there is a maximum of 10 shares per donor.
So:
- Two shares = £10.00 per calendar month
- Three shares = £15.00 per calendar month
- Four shares = £20.00 per calendar month
- Five shares = £25.00 per calendar month
- Six shares = £30.00 per calendar month
- Seven shares = £35.00 per calendar month
- Eight shares = £40.00 per calendar month
- Nine shares = £45.00 per calendar month
- Ten shares = £50.00 per calendar month
Groups of people
People can group together (eg. Church members) and the group (eg. the Church) can take one or more shares in a bed.
Financial investment value
There is NO FINANCIAL INVESTMENT VALUE in these bed shares. Money given is a donation to the Narrowgate Night Shelter, a project of Manchester City Mission, and is non-returnable. There is however spiritual and moral investment in directly helping a homeless person.
Provision of a bed
The term “provision of a bed” includes:
- access to a guest lounge prior to the dormitory being opened, with pool and TV facilities;
- availability of a Chaplain 5 nights a week;
- a light supper;
- a monitored dormitory, ensuring a safe sleeping environment;
- a light breakfast;
- freshly laundered bedding;
- cleaning of the facility;
- appropriate safety and security measures.
Over subscription
If the Bed shares scheme is oversubscribed at the time you apply, you agree to your donation being used for the ongoing development of the Narrowgate Night Shelter.
Adjudication
The decision of the Narrowgate Night Shelter Manager is final in all cases.
