Rumours of our closure have been greatly exaggerated!

by Terry Durose, MCM Director

We first realised that something was wrong when, for the second day on the run we had NO mail at all at the Windsor Centre.

A little investigation revealed the cause.

As part of our service to the homeless we regularly receive mail on behalf of our drop in and night shelter clients. As one may expect, our clients tend to move around quite a bit, which creates quite a lot of work returning mail to sender under a “no longer at this address” label.

For years this has not caused any confusion at all.

However, this summer the mail service have interpreted a batch of “no longer at this address” return letters in a very different way.

The powers that be have decided that Manchester City Mission must have closed down!

I am of course writing to all our supporters to inform you that this is not the case and that we are all alive and well and continuing to serve Greater Manchester though our various projects.

It may be that you have recently sent a gift to MCM only to have it returned by the post office. Please, please would you send it back to us. We need your financial support more than ever as the current squeeze on our nation’s finances begin to bite hard into charitable giving.

If you have not sent a gift recently, would you please consider doing so. The current breakdown in our mail service means that we may not have received some of the donations that we so much depend on.

I am reliably informed that as of today, our postal service has resumed so it is now safe to send, or resend your gifts or donations to us.

Thank you!
